Acupuncture
Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. It has a very positive model of good health and function, and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore the body’s equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects their lives.
In Chinese Medicine we believe that there are energy pathways or channels all over the body. These pathways of energy are divided into section and each section relates to a specific organ function. Each channel of energy has points of energy in specific places, and each point has a specific function according to Chinese Medicine.
In Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine great emphasis is given to pulse and tongue diagnosis, as a great deal can be revealed through sensitive reading of the pulse, and shape, colour and condition of the tongue.
In Chinese Medicine we believe that emotional imbalance/disease can create physical imbalance/disease, and vice versa. As treatment is holistic we are treating the whole person, using as little as 4-6 needles we can effectively treat an issue that may be occurring in a completely different area of the body.
The needles can be left inserted for up to 20 minutes, or could be just in and then taken straight out, depending on the outcome required.
Great results can be seen from using Acupuncture, from physical complaints like back ache to very emotional conditions, such as anxiety, depression, stress, tension and frustrations.
If you’re interested in treatment, or nervous about what it entails ( we know many people are afraid of needles!), call or email us and we’ll chat about the best course of action.

Anger Management
Anger is the primary emotion that society knows very little about. As a result we have become afraid of anger, an emotion that we all experience.
Often anger is the outward expression of something much deeper going on inside, it is used as a defence mechanism to hide our pain, fear, insecurities, and vulnerabilities.
Ed is an Anger Management practitioner who helps people struggling to control their anger, and also those who need help to understand anger and stay safe in relation to other peoples anger.
Anger is an emotion, just like all the others, but anger is often poorly understood and more often than not, it is expressed inappropriately causing hurt and pain to all concerned.
From the ‘imploder’ who tries not to be angry and keeps internalising, to the ‘exploder’ who is continually aggressive, abusive and threatening. All can be helped.
Inappropriate experiences of anger have their origins in the past- anger is often fuelled by hurt, pain, fear and insecurity which can in turn lead to low self esteem, lack of confidence and inferiority.
We all need to learn how to manage the powerful feelings that surround anger, and unlike all the other emotional problems people face that are often supported by friends and family (depression, anxiety, grief), anger is often avoided at all costs- leaving those who have problems controlling and experiencing anger, alone.
Ed uses his extensive life experience and his broad range of therapeutic skills to help people understand the nature of anger; where is comes from, how it affects us, how to spot our triggers and also how to help us express it appropriately.
Ed works with individuals or groups, and this can be in our practice or in a venue or corporate setting. He also offers continual support by phone and Skype sessions, and email.
Any enquiry relating to anger and emotional issues will of course always remain confidential and be handled sensiti

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive clothed treatment involving light touch to promote healing and support your own inner awareness. The treatment recognises that health is inherent in the body and through this gentle touch and a listening approach it can be a subtle and profound healing form. The work assists the body in doing what it needs to do in its ongoing search for balance, working from the inside, without imposing from the outside.
The practitioner listens in to a natural unconscious rhythm that manifests throughout the body, like the heart beat or breathing but much subtler. This comes from the centre of our system and is conveyed by the intrinsic ebb and flow of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), which coat the brain and spinal cord. The bones, tissues and fluids of the body move to accommodate this movement. In the Craniosacral field this is called the Breath of Life and can be felt as a tide like motion throughout the body. These natural rhythms can indicate particular areas of held trauma and holding, and with this listening approach, can provide a focal point or lever from which the body’s own healing can spring.
At a deep level, craniosacral therapy can release personal history (emotional, physical, spiritual) that are held in our tissues. These areas of tension, holding, trauma, are held in place by the body’s potency, innate life force. As these areas unravel and release, this potency is then freed up to the rest of the system to increase our level of wellbeing

Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease and is considered to be one of the oldest forms of medicine.
Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves and herbs have been used for thousands of years to bring this balance back to the body. Plants with a particular affinity for certain organs or systems of the body are used to ‘feed’ and restore to health those parts which have become weakened. As the body is strengthened so is its power and ability to fight off disease and when balance and harmony are restored, health will be regained.
Herbs are very easy for the human body to assimilate as they have been part of the human diet for thousands of years. Herbal medicine offers a safe, gentle and effective approach to health and is suitable for all from the very young to the very old.
The first consultation will take an hour and a half and a comprehensive history will be taken in order to build a picture of you as a unique human being. The second appointment may follow in two weeks, subsequent ones occurring at regular intervals and the herbal prescription will be changed as your condition improves. Suggestions will also be made on how to change your diet and lifestyle. There is a wide range of plant based remedies both internal and external and we will find the ones which are most appropriate for you and your health problem. These might include tinctures, powders, capsules, aromatic waters, essential oils, teas, syrups or creams.
What ailments can herbal medicine help with?
-Skin problems
-Digestive: such as irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, bloating, constipation and gastric ulcers
-The heart and circulation: angina, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, varicose veins
-Gynaecological disorders including premenstrual syndrome, painful periods and menopausal problems
-Fertility
-Arthritis
-Insomnia, Stress and depression
-Influenza, asthma and allergic responses such as hay fever
If we haven’t listed your condition, please don’t worry, we can’t list everything! Call us and we’ll do our best to help find a course of action.

McTimoney Chiropractic
The McTimoney approach to chiropractic is based on a whole body assessment of the individual, concentrating not only on structural misalignments and subluxations, but also on their general well-being and quality of life. As the body works as a whole, it seems clear that it should be treated as a whole, and whilst it is certainly true that people usually seek relief from pain, the aim of a McTimoney chiropractor is to stimulate the body’s own self-healing mechanism and facilitate a return to optimum health.
The way this is achieved is through a series of fast, low-force adjustments of not only the spine, but also, unusually for most chiropractors, the sacrum, pelvis and the cranium. The arms and legs are also routinely mobilised at every treatment. This series of light re-balancing adjustments are very comfortable for the patient to receive, and mean that the approach is suitable for all age groups from the very young to the old and frail.
McTimoney chiropractors will always give postural advice to help adjustments hold, and to ensure that people know how to change the things they do, in order to minimise recurrences of problems in the future. X-rays are not routinely used, and McTimoney chiropractors rely on their finely tuned sense of touch to palpate subluxations in the spine.

Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a drug-free non-invasive manual therapy that can be used to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions. It is suitable for almost anyone and focuses on a persons health by treating and strengthening the musculo-skeletal framework.
Osteopaths use a wide range of gentle techniques such as deep tissue massage, stretching, joint articulation and manipulation. They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.
Osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council in order to practice. Patients may be referred by their GP or may opt to see an osteopath independently.
Osteopaths’ patients include the young, older people, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people.
Patients seek treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including:
-back pain
-repetitive strain injury
-changes to posture in pregnancy
-postural problems caused by driving or work strain
-the pain of arthritis
-sports injuries
-neck pain
-shoulder and arm pain
-pelvis, hip and leg problems

Reflexology
Reflexology is the manipulation of small pressure points based on the feet, hands and ears. It is believed that these pressure points relate to the organs and parts of the human body. By working on these pressure points we stimulate the nerve and blood supply helping to clear toxins and congestion that may have built up creating imbalances and disease.
Energy also runs in zones through the body and by applying pressure or energy to one area we can stimulate energy throughout that zone.
Many aspects of modern living can contribute to imbalance; diets, lifestyle, financial pressure, work and relationship stresses, worrying or the constant bombardment we receive from external environmental stimulation to be doing or buying something.
Reflexology can be used to slow things down. It is a highly relaxing and non invasive therapy that can help you get back in touch with yourself. To recuperate, to regain motivation and to help you focus from a slightly different perspective of balance.
Reflexology can help with many concerns including:
-Tiredness & lethargy
-Digestion disorders
-Headaches & migraines
-Joints, aches & Pains
-Insomnia
-Back & neck pain
-Stress, tension & anxiety
-Depression
If we haven’t named your condition, please don’t worry, call us and we can discuss the best treatment and course of action for you.

Remedial Massage & Manipulation
Remedial massage is one of the most effective and readily available ways to prevent and treat muscle injuries, pain and soreness.
Remedial massage is based on the fact that soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) respond to touch. Most pain is myofascial (soft tissue) in origin. Trigger points (sensitive points in muscles, which radiate or refer pain to various parts of the body) can mimic many conditions. Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilise them, and they provide armour for the internal organs, minor problems with these functions cause more pain than most people realise. Most headaches originate in the muscles of the neck and head. Much of the pain of such conditions as angina comes from the hypercontraction of the chest muscles. Much abdominal and pelvic pain can be caused by trigger points in the abdominal and pelvic muscles. Low back pain and sciatic pain are far more likely to originate in muscles than in vertebral disc problems.
Although many clients who consult a remedial massage therapist have pain as a result of specific injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries, etc.), RSI (repetitive strain injuries) and other work-related problems, the vast majority originates in postural (structural) alignment problems that sometimes go back to childhood and adolescence.
Ed trained in Holistic & Remedial Massage in a post grad school with the School of Refelxology and the School of Massage, Cardiff. Both these courses were taught by osteopaths and chiropractors. Ed then completed training in manipulative science which brought the ability to improve joint function, recovery after injury and to help regulate the muscular skeletal system using MT and mobilisation techniques to his massage practice.
After qualifying in Acupuncture in 2003 Ed was able to also add acupuncture to help people with muscular skeletal problems.
Because of his many disciplines Ed is able to truly treat muscular skeletal problems ‘holistically’. Ed may use a combination of Manipulation, Remedial Massage, Acupuncture, trigger point Acupuncture & Reflexology to help bring about relief for pain and discomfort and will use his life long experience in exercise and martial arts and working with peoples bodies to improve posture & develop core strength to help improve and maintain muscular and skeletal health.
Ed will work with the very young or old and everyone in between, and loves to help people get the best from themselves.
